Dental Implants
Our Dental Practice has been offering dental implants as an option to patients for replacing missing teeth.
Dental implants are basically medically pure Titanium screws that are placed in the bone and rest under the gum for 4-6 months. During this time they actually fuse to the bone and become osseointegrated. When they are uncovered, then we use them to replace one or more missing teeth with a crown, bridge, or denture. |
 |
| Dental implants were invented in Sweden in the early 1960's and are regulated by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Dental implant companies must meet very stringent guidelines so your treatment will have the best possible outcome. |
The placement of dental implants is performed by an Oral Surgeon, or a Periodontist. This is usually done in an office setting with mild sedation to make you comfortable. In most cases minimal postoperative discomfort is noticed.
There are many applications for dental implants. For full denture patients (those without any teeth), implant dentures can be made that are fixed onto the implants, or they can be made where they are removable and snap onto a bar with attachments. Implants can also be used to replace a single tooth with an abutment and a crown, or multiple teeth with porcelain implant bridges. |

The cost of dental implants is based on a combination of the surgical aspect and the tooth restoration part. The oral surgeon's fee will be separate. Your total treatment fee will depend on the number of implants and type of final restoration. A treatment plan with all the fees will be presented to you for your approval before the case is started. Clinical Cases
In our practice, we perform many types of tooth reconstruction and tooth replacement. Routinely, we document our cases with photography. The photos are uses for teaching and allowing patients to visualize the before and after aspects of their treatment. Here are two cases that we will share with you.
| This case is a 25-year-old man that lost a front tooth due to trauma. We replaced the tooth with a porcelain fixed bridge which is permanent. |
| The second case is a 72-year-old woman that lost her lower left molars. We placed three Branemark implants. Then we delivered a three unit porcelain bridge that is fixed to the implants. The first photo shows the healing abutments. The second photo shows the final bridge in place. |

Snoring Device
The Thornton Adjustible Positioner (TAP) is a simple and effective oral appliance availible for the treatment of snoring and obstructive sleep apnea. Custom molded from each patient's dental impressions, the TAP is a small plastic device, similar to an orthodontic retainer, that is worn in the mouth during sleep. By adjusting the appliance to reposition the jaw, soft throat tissue is prevented from obstructing the airway, thus eliminating snoring and improving breathing. Not only does this provide the patient with restful, uninterupted, sleep, it allows their bed partner a quiet night as well. The TAP is inexpensive compared to other treatments, is easy to wear, and is custom designed to provide the patient with a comfortable fit. Patients simply have impressions taken, and return a few weeks later to try on their TAP and take it home.
