Welcome to Vermont Emergency Medical Services District No. 5
Updated 03/17/2011
New NVRH Transfer Guidelines - 12/04/10
EMS will be staging in the ED for all transports from inpatient units. They will follow the following procedure
1) They should be called when the patient is ready to go
2) They will call the sending unit, from the ED to notify them of their arrival
3) When the patient AND paperwork are ready to go, the sending unit should call the ED , #7686, and let EMS know they are ready
4) EMS will then proceed to sending unit
Calls should be made from the lounge phone to help decrease secretary involvement. I will post the unit numbers beside the phone for easy access. Thanks -Deb Bach, E.D Nurse Manager
For those that were unable to attend this month's training - please review the DNR / COLST Form VT EMS Protocol -under files
NEW 2010 AHA Guidelines posted under files. Start reviewing!!!
Methamphetamine Use in Vermont - Health Advisory - see files for Memo
PLEASE make sure your crews know 12 LEADS strips MUST BE LABELED AND PLACED ON PROGRESS NOTES NOT (OR JUST PLAIN PAPER) or they will be tossed! We do need them for patient records but without a name and DOB on it we can not "guess" who they belong to. Thanks, Deb
EMS District # 5 Use of Paramedic Resource:
Paramedic intercepts may be a useful resource for EMT-I and EMT-B crew offering ALS care in a variety of clinical situations:
Chest Pain, Shortness of Breath, Major Trauma, Pain Control, Anaphylaxis, Cardiac or Respiratory Arrest, Advanced Airway Management, Seriously ill Pediatric patients
Given that adult medical patients can be difficult to evaluate, if grossly abnormal vital signs are obtained in a patient:
1) Pulse greater than 140 or less than 40
2) Blood pressure less than 100 systolic
3) Respiratory rate greater than 30 or less than 10
4) Oxygen saturation less than 88%
EMT-I or EMT-B level crews should consider involving paramedics in the care of these patients, given the response time and distance to the Emergency Room.
Stanley Baker, MD District # 5 EMS Medical Director
